As part of StAnza's ongoing collaboration with New Writing North, we are delighted to be travelling to Newcastle for a special event this February, and very grateful to New Writing North for inviting us.

Our programme for 2010, which takes place over five days from 17–21 March offers 80 events in atmospheric venues around the ancient town centre of St Andrews, and features more than 90 poets, musicians, artists and writers in every kind of reading and performance.

As a preview to the 2010 excitement, New Writing North are hosting a special evening in Newcastle with StAnza’s Artistic Director Eleanor Livingstone and StAnza’s poet in residence for 2010, Kei Miller. At the event Eleanor will talk a little about the festival, Kei will read from his work and New Writing North will provide the refreshments. It’s a great opportunity for local poets and poetry readers to learn more about the festival and to hear more about the vibrant Scottish poetry scene.

Kei Miller is a Jamaican poet and novelist. His first collection was There is an Anger that Moves and he is editor of New Caribbean Poetry (both Carcanet, 2007). In July Carcanet will publish his newest collection, A Light Song of Light, and Weidenfeld and Nicolson will publish his latest novel, The Last Warner Woman. He teaches at the University of Glasgow.
