Paula Claire & Antony John (Nearest tubes: Russell Square; Holborn)
Paula Claire is a legendary figure in sound, visual and concrete poetry. She is known for her collaborative work with Bob Cobbing and Bill Griffiths (as Konkrete Canticle) and others, as well as her solo work. Numerous publications have appeared over the years, mainly from Writers Forum and ICPA (International Concrete Poetry Archive), including Declarations: Poems 1961-91, with an introduction by Eric Mottram (ICPA, 1991.
She is represented in Maggie O'Sullivan's anthology Out of Everywhere: linguistically innovative poetry by women in North America & the UK (Reality Street, 1996. A new publication, WORDSWORKWONDERS: 25 Selected Poems 1961-2010, will be available on the night.
Antony John's book 'now than it used to be, but in the past' appeared from Veer Publications in 2009, confirming his reputation as an exciting presence in contemporary UK poetry.
