Everyone is welcome to our free poetry reading at the Albert. Our readers this month are Stephanie Bowgett, Jennifer Copley, Kim Moore and Gill Nicholson.
Stephanie Bowgett is one of the four founding Albert poets and has one out-of-print pamphlet and lots of poems in magazines. She has won prizes in the Peterloo, Arvon and Yorkshire competitions and first prize at Ilkley and Nottingham. Steph has read in fields, on trains, in shopping centres, universities, schools, libraries and pubs to audiences ranging from one to hundreds. She especially enjoys doing poetry workshops with children.
Jennifer Copley's fourth collection is 'Beans in Snow' published by Smokestack in 2009. She has a pamphlet forthcoming from Happenstance. She has won or been placed in many national competitions, highly commended in the Forward Prize (2008) and has just recently agreed for her work to be used in GCSE Poetry Unseen revision papers.
Kim Moore is a poetry student on the MA at Manchester Metropolitan University and is currently longlisted for an Eric Gregory Award. She has recently been published in the TLS, Poetry Review and Staple.
Gill Nicholson is a South Cumbrian writer whose plays have been performed by the BBC and at West Yorkshire Playhouse. A memoir, The Mirror Game, was published in 2004 and stories by Flax in 2008. Poems have appeared in Pennine Platform, Seam, iota, Orbis and The Interpreter’s House. Her first poetry collection Naming Dusk in Dead Languages was published in 2009.
