“If a butterfly flaps its wings….” Into your head comes a phrase, a word, a faint ghost of an idea. How do you seize it, turn it into a poem? This workshop sets out to help you discover how to do that. We will look at poems by Eavan Boland, Derek Mahon and William Carlos Williams to see how
taking a very simple thing as focus can give rise to a poem that speaks of much wider issues. And we will have a go ourselves: concentrating on a number of small objects we will seek to follow where these poets lead us and create
our own magic in our own poems. This workshop is suitable for those who want to improve their poetry and for beginners.
