WORD is a series of events on writing that will play host to readings, discussions and lively chat from some of the country’s best-known and loved writers and performers.
On 8 February WORD presents ‘In Conversation with Dave Haslam and Frank Cottrell Boyce.’
Dave Haslam is a writer and broadcaster who DJ’d at the Hacienda club in Manchester through the late 1980s. He has since DJ'd worldwide. His journalism has appeared in NME, The Times, The Guardian, The London Review of Books, and The New Statesman. He has written three books of cultural history, including the groundbreaking Manchester England (1999) which was declared one of the ten books that best represent England on World Book Day 2003.
Frank Cottrell Boyce is an award-winning screenwriter and novelist from Liverpool. He wrote the screenplays for the films Forget About Me (1990), Butterfly Kiss (1995), Welcome to Sarajevo (1997), Twenty Four Hour Party People (2002) and Hilary and Jackie (2007). He also writes for children: in 2004, he wrote a book based on his own screenplay – Millions – which won the 2004 Carnegie Medal.
Frank Cottrell Boyce and Dave Haslam will be talking to each other about their work, followed by a book signing in the Great Hall. Drinks will be available at the bar and music will be provided by the Gavin Baras Duo. Music will begin at 7pm followed by the conversation at 7.30pm.
