This month sees a very special edition of Lancashire Writing Hub’s Live Lit Night at The Continental.
The ‘Sixfold Poets’, a veritable who’s who of Lancaster-based wordsmiths, are taking over the event for the evening with their themed readings on the subject of ‘water’.
The collective includes Mike Barlow, who was winner of the National Poetry Competition 2006 and was shortlisted for the Jerwood Aldeburgh Prize for Best First Collection, Sarah Hymas, a Word Soup veteran much in demand as a performance poet and published by Flax Books, and Michael Marks Award for Poetry Winner Elizabeth Burns.
Carole Coates’ two poetry collections have been published by Shoestring Books, Ian Seed’s have been collected by Shearsman books and Jane Routh was shortlisted for a Forward Prize in 2002, was a Poetry Book Society recommendation in 2006 won the 2009 Academi International Competition.
The six will be performing their sequence on water: from ocean to tap water via rivers, lakes and rainfall, exploring the many ways water features in our lives and imaginations. In addition to the these literary heavyweights, the night also sees spots from Preston writer and Helen Clark Award winner Kim McGowan and 2010 Chicago Uptown Poetry Slam winner Emma Decent.
As usual, the night will also feature an Open Mic Slot, the Word Soup Bookshop and quality musical interludes, this time from Bill Orrick; a singer-songwriter with a vocal power and clarity akin to Jeff Buckley and an alternative songwriting style influenced by the likes of Tori Amos and Radiohead.
Price: £3.00
Time: 8:00pm
