PANTISOCRACY - And raise money for Red Nose Day
I was approached to see if I would assist in organising a climate-change themed event to help raise awareness of climate change issues through entertainment instead of scientists and statistics. I thought it was a great idea, so in place of an Outspoken evening, I am lending my energies to making Thomas Jackson's 4 weeks of Pantisocracy a success.
On Friday 18th March, from 7pm, we w...ill be welcoming Lancashire writers, who will be sharing their work based on climate change or the environment. Anyone is welcome to come along and share some work, even if it is only one piece, so dig out your pieces and come along. It is basically a big OPEN MIC night, with live music and multimedia. If you are interested in reading, please let me know, though it should be ok if you wish to just turn up on the night and state your interest.
Pantisocracy was a word invented by Coleridge to describe the philosophy of a utopian community he and his friends planned to start in Louisiana. It means, roughly speaking, a fair world for all. Needless to say the venture was a disaster. They started quarrelling even before they got started, as Utopians generally do. But what a name for a firm aiming to raise awareness of climate and trade justice issues through the medium of pants and socks!
