Poetry writing workshop on the theme of time: Why are we so ruled by the clock? Why do some say “when God made time he made plenty of it” and others “I’m late, I’m late, I’m late”? Why does time drag? Why does it gallop?
The fascination of clocks - from the Antiquarian Horological Society to the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, there are people in love, passionately, with clocks and their mechanisms. Some wristwatches are an ultimate status symbol….why?
Being early and being late … when and why would you choose to be early? When and why would you choose to be late?
“I’ve done enough. It’s time to do nothing, for controlled irresponsibility.” (Douglas Dunn, ‘Indolence’)
“Doctor Clock has completed his tour of the garden
And hurry hurry hurry The Lord’s Prayer will not wait;
it must be finished before the day is dead, or is it out, or why it is over and when is it that late evening becomes
early night?” (David Grubb, ‘Doctor Clock and the Lord’s Prayer’)
