The message behind the event:
This is just to raise an awareness of one of the actions of our current government. This May might see the last time the May Day Bank Holiday (International Workers Day) is officially celebrated. First of all, this is simply a firm rejection of the left by the coalition as the International Workers Day has left-wing roots. In addition to this, if the day moves to October, not only will it lose this relevance it will also lose its name. I would be worried that a 'Britain Day' or 'National Day' will provide opportunities for the far right parties to promote their ideas; this would be out of character from what I would like to think of as a tolerant Britain that embraces multiculturalism. Why get rid of the current May Day Holiday?
I interviewed Billy Bragg (musician and activist) recently and we talked about these issues, you can listen here: http://www.mmuradio.co.uk/

I hope to see you there
