You are invited to a Poetry reading by the South Island of New Zealand poet Brian Turner, who is currently visiting London. This will be held at Birkbeck (Main building facing into Torrington Square), Malet St, in room 251 (i.e. go into building past reception on ground floor with coffee bar to right, and then up the passage way, turn right to the lifts and take lift to 2nd floor).
Brian Turner has gained many prizes and awards for his writing. His first volume, Ladders of Rain (1978) won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize, and his 1992 collection, Beyond, won the New Zealand Book Award. He has also written short fiction and plays -- his cricket play Fingers Up won the J.C. Reid Memorial Prize in 1985.
