Come, we too should raise our hands (in supplication) for world peace, and for the prosperity of its people.

Twenty five years after his death, Faiz Ahmed Faiz is still an icon for millions of oppressed people in the South Asian continent. Faiz's poems and writings, even today, represent an unflinching resistance to oppression and imperialism.

Like Nazim Hikmat, Kazi Nazrurul Islam, Pablo Neruda and Mahmoud Darwish, Faiz?s poetry transcends geographical boundaries; and is timeless. Faiz, recipient of the prestigious Lenin Peace Prize, nceasingly represented the aspirations of down-trodden and unpossessed.

In Faiz's centenary year, we are paying homage to him through talks, poetry, music and dance. Poetry recitals by regional artists and of Faiz work will be choreographed using classical Indian dance by Geetha Upadhyaya.
