TheAbsurd Presents… an evening of Spoken Word @ Clwyd Theatr Cymru…

We have a strong storytelling theme running throughout our summer Absurd evening with performances of the highest calibre. All three performers Angry Sam, Cath Aran and Anthony Joseph are masters of the oral tradition and will make this event a night to remember.

Angry Sam has won both the Brighton Festival and Liverpool Poetry Slams in his time. He’s also collaborated with the likes of UK Beatboxer, Beardyman, and hiphop producers Evil Sun and Earthed. Expect poetic assault and verbal battery.

North Wales’s Cath Aran is a traditional, bilingual, Storyteller like no other. She has built a reputation for being a storyteller of immense passion and ability who can connect with audiences across all generations. Cath tells stories from Wales as well as from the four corners of the globe leaving the audience enchanted and enthralled.

Our headline act for this event, Anthony Joseph, is of the UK's most exciting and innovative voices. This poet, novelist, musician and lecturer was born in Trinidad and has lived in the UK since 1989. He is the author of three poetry collections, Desafinado, 1994, Teragaton, 1997 and Bird Head Son, 2009, a spoken word CD Liquid Textology: Readings From The African Origins of UFOs and a novel, The African Origins of UFOs published by Salt Publishing in November 2006.

In 2004 Joseph was selected by renaissance one, Decibel and the Arts Council of England as one of fifty Black and Asian writers who have made major contributions to contemporary British literature, appearing in the historic Great Day photo. In 2005 he was selected as the British Council’s first Poet in residence at California State University, Los Angeles.
