Roncadora Press was formed in 2005 it is run single-handedly by Hugh Bryden who individually produces the pamphlets using bookart technique. It has been shortlisted for the Callum Macdonald Memorial Award three times and won it in 2009. In 2010 and 2011 the press was shortlisted for the Michael Marks Award at the British Library. Roncadora poets include Jean Atkin, John Burns, Andrew Forster, Graham Fulton, Hugh McMillan, Hayden Murphy, Liz Niven, Chrys Salt and Rab Wilson. Join Hugh and a motley crew for this extra August event. Drinks in the garden if the sun shines!?
Roncadora poets read from their books introduced by publisher/artist Hugh who will talk briefly about the ideas and production of the pamphlets. Followed by a preview of Roncadora’s latest publication 1957 Flying Scot which centres around a crown of sonnets by Rab Wilson about a classic racing bike illustrated with linocuts by Hugh Bryden.
Two CDs incorporated feature Rab introducing and reading the sonnets and a specially commissioned suite of Jazz compositions by Ben Bryden. 1957 Flying Scot will be officially launched at Wigtown Book Festival in September with an exhibition and full performance of the music. For this special preview at the Bakehouse, Rab will read the sonnets with solo saxophone accompaniment by Ben. Special one-off, hand-coloured versions of pamphlets exclusively available on the night.
