The Absurd Presents… an evening of spoken word @ Clwyd Theatr Cymru
We have a change of line-up for our next Absurd event on Tuesday 27th September. The legendary Bob Holman, founder of the renowned Bowery Poetry Club, New York, will be our headline act for this event.
For the first time theAbsurd evening will begin with an ‘open floor’ slot for anybody to come along and perform to a theatre audience. There are limited spaces for this of just 5 minutes each and this will run from 7.30pm to 8pm. Slots will be given on a first-come first-serve basis so if you think you’ve got what it takes to wow our audience make sure you get here early!
Next will be Bangor poet Martin Daws. Martin combines modern poetry with hip hop lyricism, free jazz and fiction to create electrifying live performances and high quality recordings of spoken word and music. He was runner-up in the John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry 2007, and second in the Glastonbury Festival Grand Slam 2008.

Finally, all the way from the Bowery Poetry Club, New York, we are delighted to announce our headline act, Bob Holman. From Slam to Hiphop, from performance poetry to spoken word, Bob has been a central figure in the re-emergence of poetry in American culture. Recently dubbed a member of the "Poetry Pantheon" by the New York Times Magazine and featured in a Henry Louis Gates, Jr. profile in The New Yorker, Holman has previously been crowned "Ringmaster of the Spoken Word" (New York Daily News), "Poetry Czar" (Village Voice), "Dean of the Scene" (Seventeen), and “this generation’s Ezra Pound,” (San Francisco’s Poetry Flash).
