Join us as The Lyric Lounge transforms the historic Alford Manor House into a vibrant spoken word festival venue.

The free events kick off at noon with BBC Poetry Slam winner Dizraeli helping you to explore your own creativity at a writing workshop session.

At 1.15pm John Osborne, stalwart of poetry band Aisle 16, will be offering razor sharp wit and lightning lyrics in a performance that’s a Lincolnshire first.

Lincolnshire’s Poet Laureate Joel Stickley will be offering aspiring writers the chance to unleash their creativity in a workshop session at 3pm and is hoping people will come up with something to perform at the Lyrical Teatime open mic session he’s hosting at 4.15pm.

The afternoon is rounded off by Dizraeli and his fabulous band The Small(er) Gods and their unique sound which makes hiphop and sea shanties collide in ways you wouldn’t have thought possible.

The evening performance, which will be the culmination of weeks of work by the Ignite youth slam group and their facilitator Harley Ryley, starts at 7.15pm with the young people sharing the stage with internationally-renowned poet Grace Nichols and John Agard.

The Lyric Lounge programme is a Writing East Midlands project and is part of the Igniting Ambition contribution to the Cultural Olympiad, which is taking place in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic games. Grace and John’s appearance has been organised for Lyric Lounge Lincoln by literature production company Renaissance One.
