Folkpoet is a new night of live arts and literature at the recently re-opened and lovingly revived Island Arts Studio in Herne Hill. Curated by spoken word artist Nick Field, Folkpoet is a hub for poets, performers and musicians who put the emphasis on their craft. Folkpoet features fascinating artists; misfits, dandy rebels and charming provocateurs, operating on the fringes of the mainstream spoken word and acoustic music scenes, because this is where the most dazzling and intriguing work is to be found. Discover skilled, honed performers and writers, musicians to cherish and emerging talent at our open(ish) mic. And because every spoken word night has to have one, there will be a surprise competitive gimmick of the month. All snugly housed in a lovely, dedicated arts-venue setting.

For our first outing we are delighted to announce our stunning line up:

FIONA BEVAN: The sweet, fiery warblings of Suffolk’s Fiona Bevan have been compared to Erykah Badu, Joni Mitchell and Doris Day. Her oddball pop songs are inflected with jazz and folk, and her lyrics pry into the dark, obsessive corners of love, with a cast of stumbling party-girls, fickle sailors, bored bubble-gum shop-girls, and forlorn lovers sleeping out in trees. www.fionabevan.co.uk

JASMINE COORAY: Jasmine Ann Cooray is a writer, poet, and creative innovator. She writes with soul and precision, transforming intimate everyday relationships and painting the world into something you want to look at twice. Her performances are warm, animated and affecting.

EMER O'CONNOR: A magical storyteller of incredible scope and passion, Emer weaves intricate, spellbinding tales with wit and versatility. “Emer O Connor, dances brilliantly between goddess and temptress, always sliding comfortably back into her main role as story-teller with ease.” – Chris Hislop, Fringe Review http://emeroconnor.co.uk/

SUPERBARD: A unique and exciting spoken word artist, Superbard has been performing his gloriously surreal multimedia shows since 2010. His debut show 'Superbard and the Sexy Quantum Stories' played at Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year, and he has run up some impressive media credits. www.superbard.co.uk

HANNAH JANE WALKER: Hannah is an innovative and beguiling poet and theatre maker whose show 'The Oh Fuck Moment' was a huge success at Edinburgh Fringe this year, and will be playing across the UK. Hannah also writes with Poetry Takeaway and has been published by Nasty Little Press. www.hannahjanewalker.co.uk

Hosted by Nick Field, who will perhaps do a pop-up miniset if there's time. www.nickfieldpoetic.co.uk
