Ambit Magazine at The Betsey Trotwood
Join us at The Betsey for our first reading since the clocks went forward – listen to some prose and poetry, meet our artists and editors, enjoy a glass of something delicious and hide from the still subtle Sun, all introduced by the inimitable editor of Ambit, Dr Martin Bax.
FLEUR ADCOCK – Fleur Adcock’s last book of poetry was Dragon Talk, (Bloodaxe, 2010). Her next collection, Glass Wings, is due from the same publisher in 2013.
ANTHONY HOWELL – Anthony Howell’s first collection of poems Inside the Castle was brought out in 1969. In 1997 he was short-listed for a Paul Hamlyn Award for his poetry. His versions of the poems of Statius were well received and his versions of Fawzi Karim were a Poetry Book Society Recommendation for 2011. His most recent book of poems is The Ogre’s Wife, Anvil 2010.
JAKI MCCARRICK – Jaki McCarrick’s short story, ‘The Visit’, won the 2010 Wasafiri Short Fiction Award. Her plays have won numerous awards and have been staged in Ireland, the UK and the US. Her poetry has appeared in Poetry Ireland Review, Irish Pages, Southword, and The Stony Thursday Book.
ABIGAIL PARRY – Abigail Parry lives in London, and is currently working towards a PhD at Goldsmiths. She has had poems published in several journals, among them Ambit, The Rialto and Magma. She is a recipient of an Eric Gregory Award.
Readings from the floor are, as always, welcome, so bring along one page of poetry or prose and share it with the room.
