Poems are like small films, allowing us to witness life and times beyond our own. This filmic legacy of 18th – 20th century writers such as John Gay, Blake, Robbie Burns, Rabindranath Tagore, Sandburg, Walt Whitman, Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson and Gwendolyn Brooks invites us to walk alongside them and see what they saw: the raw and powerful, joyful and
sometimes shocking, realities of life in both town and country. This course welcomes poets and/ or readers at all levels. It will cover close reading and discussion, plus workshop activities designed to enhance our understanding of the poems and gain insight into the poet’s craft.
