Join us at The Jolly Cricketers on 18 June 2012 for a free evening of poetry with our featured poets James Byrne, Kayo Chingonyi, Emily Hasler, and Kirsten Irving. The readings will be followed by an open mic.
James Byrne originally hails from Buckinghamshire. He is the editor of The Wolf poetry magazine, and the author of 'Passage of Time' (Flipped Eye) and 'Blood/Sugar' (Arc). He is the co-editor of 'Voice
Recognition: 21 Poets for the 21st Century' (Arc) and editor of 'Bones Will Crow: 14 contemporary Burmese poets' (Bloodaxe). He was endorsed
by The Times as one of the 'rising stars of British poetry'.
Kayo Chingonyi has just released with Salt his long-anticipated début pamphlet 'Some Bright Elegance'. He has performed all over the UK in venues and events such as the London Literature Festival, The RSC Swan Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, and Buckingham Palace. He will be representing Zambia at the Olympics for
the Poetry Parnassus.
Emily Hasler has published a pamphlet of poetry with Salt called 'Natural Histories'. In 2009 she won second prize in the Edwin Morgan International Poetry Competition. Her poems appear in The Salt Book of Younger Poets and The Best British
Poetry 2011. 'Emily Hasler is an exciting poet for the future' (Andrew Forster). Emily came to read at our very first night and was quite the
hit, so we've asked her to come back.
Kirsten Irving is the co-editor of wonderful indie press Sidekick Books, and the editor of the cult hand-made magazine Fuselit. Her pamphlet 'What to do' was published by Happenstance Press, she also co-authored a Forest press pamphlet called 'No, Robot, No!' Her full collection, 'Never Never Never Come Back' will be released by Salt later this
year. 'Irving takes the familiar and introduces a rogue transformative element' (Chris Emslie).
