There’s a gaping hole in Manchester’s spoken word scene that new monthly night, Monkey Poet’s Spoke’n’Heard aims to fill. A regular night presenting nationally acclaimed poets alongside the cream of the resident Manchester poets.
The line up of established poets include Kate Fox, Mista Gee, Ross Sutherland, John Osborne & Aoife Mannix, all of whom have performed on national radio
The array of local talent include BBC Radio 4 Slam Champion Ben Mellor, Glastonbury Festival’s Poet Laureate Tony Walsh, Poetry Kit’s best emerging poet Jackie Hagan, the founder of National Poetry Day Jo Bell, and Working Verse, some great blokes whose recent Lowry show seems destined to send them stratospheric.
The inaugural night will be March 21st with Ross Sutherland, one of The Times’ Top 10 Literary Stars ‘08 plus Jackie Hagan - Poetry Kit’s best emerging poet.
The evening will be compered by the internationally-acclaimed Manchester-based Monkey Poet, whose performances have won seven fringe awards around the world including Best Poet at the San Francisco Fringe Festival two years running.
There will also be an open mic section on a first-come first-heard basis.
DJ Jez, Red Bulls bedroom to bedlam Winner will be spinning tunes throughout, and at the end of the night play us to a literary climax.
