Ghost Running is a 20-minute new work of sound focused poetry performance on the topic of distance running, inspired by the research for a new BBC Radio 3 commission Marathon Tales.

Performed by Hannah Silva, this performance will layer and interweave the stories of great marathon runners with the sounds and rhythms of running including heartbeats, breath and pulse.

Hannah Silva is an award-winning writer and performer known for vocal acrobatics and linguistic experiments. She has performed her poetry at Latitude Festival, London Word Festival, throughout the UK and internationally in Germany, Belgium and Japan.

She has performed on Radio 3’s the Verb and was described by The Times as ‘one of the most ambitious and entertaining poets in the country’. Her poetry is including in forthcoming anthologies by Penned in the Margins, Avalanche Books and Bloodaxe.

Her solo show, Opposition is currently on tour and has been described in a five star review by What’s on Stage as ‘radical, political, courageous’.

The evening will also feature a special performance by Helen Mort.

Helen Mort was born in Sheffield in 1985. Her collection, Division Street is forthcoming from Chatto and Windus. She has published two pamphlets with tall-lighthouse press, The Shape of Every Box and A Pint for the Ghost, a Poetry Book Society Choice for Spring 2010.

Five-times winner of the Foyle Young Poets award, she received an Eric Gregory Award from The Society of Authors in 2007 and won the Manchester Young Writer Prize in 2008. In 2010, she became the youngest ever poet in residence at The Wordsworth Trust, Grasmere.

She will be judging this year's Foyle Young Poet of the Year competition, along with Christopher Reid.
