Lots of hands on family activities to celebrate Jamaican Independence Day.
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaican Independence Day at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. This year the event will be packed with craft activities for children and adults to enjoy. Children can have their face painted, make badges, design t-shirts, listen to stories read by Sue Mason at 11:30AM – 12:30PM and dub poetry by Marcia Calame at 1:30PM – 2:30PM. Watch the performance of “I Am Jamaica, Jamaica We Are” by actors from the Gazebo Theatre and the Village Playhouse Youth Theatre at 12PM – 1PM. Queen Nanny of the Maroons, Mary Seacole, Sam Sharpe and Louise Bennett will be portrayed in the play and the children will have their own interpretations of what Jamaica means to them.
Music will be playing all day and there will be a chance to watch/listen to videos of migration stories. Whilst taking part in the activities, sample the Jamaican cakes and drinks and view the children’s artwork from Whitgreave Junior School and West Park Primary School.
Many many more....)
