Pop Up Poetry at the Bar Des Arts on 28th August welcomes as guests two rising young poets, Joshua Seigal and Laurie Bolger. Both write and perform with enormous wit and humour, bringing their observant eyes and pens to bear on the fun - and trials - of being young at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
Joshua comes to Guildford fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe, where he has enjoyed a successful summer performing his one-man show for families, “We All Love Llamas” and, separately, preview shows in London for adults. His quirky rhymes and comic timing make him a performer to remember. Joshua has had his poems published in a number of anthologies and magazines.
Laurie’s work is free-ranging and varied, from the comic through to the meditative.. She brings a sparkling presence to all her stage performances. Employed at Apples and Snakes, the organisation that promotes spoken word as an educational force in London, she has a busy life organising poetry workshops and events for young people, as well as appearing in festivals and spoken word venues performing her own poems.
We look forward to welcoming all the local poets who have become our supporters and contributors over the last few months, and some new open-mic readers too, who have contacted us on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/PopUpPoets) or by email (popupoetry@gmail.com). If you would like a five minute spot, you can also sign up on the night, from 7.15 for a 7.30 start. Hope to see you there!
