Steve Komarnyckyj, Huddersfield's most famous Ukrainian poet, presents a book of Pavlo Tychyna's work translated into English. Tychyna was the greatest Ukrainian poet of the twentieth century and is becoming more widely known in the West.
Mr Komarnyckyj is presenting his book of Tychyna's work in translation, 'The Raspberry's Eyelash', in Brussels at the end of November in an event sponsored by the EU Ukraine Business Council but is keen to present his work in his native county Yorkshire.
Tychyna was, according to Komarnyckyj, one of a generation of Ukrainian authors known as 'The Executed Renaissance'. Steve will also be presenting some beautiful editions of his translations produced in partnership with the Tychyna Museum in Kyiv and its Director the poet's grandaughter Tetiana Sosnowska. He will give a talk on Ukrainian literature, the threat to Ukraine's culture, and particularly the Tychyna Museum from organised crime and read some of the poems.
He will be accompanied by his business partner, Susie Speight, with whom he runs his translation and teaching business and Sohail Khan an artist who has lived and worked in Yorkshire since 1983 both of whom will read from the books.
