A variation on our usual Open Mic events, this is a special Sunday-afternoon Poetry and Music event in aid of Conservation of Upland Powys (CUP).
See http://www.facebook.com/ConservationofUplandPowys and http://www.midwaleswind.co.uk/. CUP will be displaying information about the windfarms amd pylons, and how they are fighting the developers on our behalf.
We expect this to attract a bigger audience than our usual events, so we are holding it in the large Sculpture Hall at MWAC rather than in the gallery. Hence the move to a Sunday afternoon, as it would be a bit chilly in the evening! (Even in the afternoon you might want to make sure that you wrap up warm.)
In addition to the poetry, there will be music from the wonderful Jeb Loy Nichols, and Ian & Karen Gomm. Also Gay Roberts playing the harp, and Neil McKeown and Barry Edwards with their combined poetry and music. We plan to have mostly poetry towards the start, and mostly music towards the end.
All are welcome to come and listen, or to read their own work or a favourite poem. If you can, please bring poems - old or new - inspired by the beautiful local landscape that is now threatened by plans for windfarm developments and massive pylons.
The afternoon starts at 2pm, and admission is free although we ask for donations to CUP. Refreshments (tea & coffee) will be available.
There will also be the opportunity to view the latest exhibition in the gallery: ‘Our Fragile Heritage at the Crossroads’ - a new exhibition with a strong environmental message from prominent Welsh Artists including David Bellamy, Jenny Keal and Terence Lambert.
