How do you fight back when your own heart tries to kill you?
Award winning poet’s hit Edinburgh show UK tour 2012/3, Albany, London 10 October
In 2010, for his thirtieth birthday Richard Tyrone Jones, the healthy, gym-going ‘Ringmaster of Spoken Word’ (****ThreeWeeks) got a rather unexpected present. Heart failure.
‘An engrossing tale with rousing poetry’ ****Fringe Biscuit
Having battled back from the brink of death to (almost) full-health and armed with a pen and a pacemaker, he has written a show about his experiences, which he describes as 'a unique prescription of cardiomyopoetry, animation and anecdosage.'
‘A life affirming show from a charismatic and likeable performer’ ****The Skinny
Thanks to the support of The Wellcome Trust, Richard Tyrone Jones’s Big Heart performed in a critically acclaimed run at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe and embarks on a UK tour Autumn/Winter 2012/3. Richard Tyrone Jones received a Three Weeks Editor’s Award in August 2012 in recognition of his successes in ‘pushing forward performance poetry and his own exciting shows’.
‘A refreshing innovation in the spoken word scene’ ****Broadway Baby
Richard Tyrone Jones’s Big Heart expands on the lurid details of near-near death from dilated cardiomyopathy (heart failure), his convoluted convalescence and living his everyday life with a condition that will almost certainly kill him. Here is truly a show for anyone who ever had a heart. Or failure. Many artists consider their show to be as important as life and death, this one literally is.
‘Raw, at times graphic and very funny’ BBC Ouch!
