An evening of poetry and music. The event features two outstanding performers. The translator, literary critic and award winning poet Fiona Sampson is editor of the Poetry Review. Her most recent collection, Rough Music (2010) contains poems in which 'each word carefully weighted and placed, like steps in a dance. They are 'quiet, but often demanding' and 'there is often the sense of threat or an undercurrent of fear beneath the surface'. Our musician will be singer-songwriter Louise Mary Martin, now usually seen fronting the reggae/soul/folk band Righteous Bees, performing solo for the first time in over 3 years. Expect a performance that is lyrically forthright, vocally sensual and quietly passionate.
