Do you have a story inside that wants to get out? Arvon creative writing courses are renowned for their power to help you discover your inner writer. On this three-day course at the beautiful Durham Castle, you’ll experience an inspirational mix of workshops and individual tutorials with highly regarded authors, and the support of your fellow writers. Long after the course is over, you’ll have the creative momentum to continue writing.

Tutors:
Mavis Cheek is the author of sixteen novels including her prize winning first novel Pause Between Acts, Amenable Woman and, most recently, The Lovers of Pound Hill in 2011. She is also Chair of the Marlborough Literature Festival and an experienced creative writing tutor. www.mavischeek.co.uk

Stephen May‘s prize winning first novel TAG came out in 2008. His much anticipated second novel Life! Death! Prizes! was published by Bloomsbury in 2012. He also writes for theatre and is author of Getting Started in Creative Writing. www.sdmay.com

Guest Pat Barker was born in 1943. Her books include the highly acclaimed Regeneration trilogy, which was made into a film of the same name; The Eye in the Door (1993), which won the Guardian Fiction Prize; and The Ghost Road (1995), which won the Booker Prize. She lives in Durham.


The course fee of £250 includes workshops, individual tutorials, personal writing time, lunch and dinner each day, tutor readings and a special guest reading. We start at 9am, and there are readings after dinner in the evenings. This is a non-residential course. Numbers are limited to 16 places, so the sooner you book, the better.
If you want to apply but can’t afford the fee, we’re offering two grants to cover the full cost of the course.
