At the HappenStance Christmas launch event there will be a marked absence of poetasters.

However, there will be two first-rate Scottish poets (Jim C Wilson and Jim Carruth), and a number of people ready to savour some of their excellent work in live performance. There will be three of Matthew Stewart’s wine poems, as well (although read in his absence). And the audience will be invited to be wine tasters (in the first sense) of Matthew’s Zaleo wines – even as they sample the poetry – using wine tasters (in the second sense) from which to imbibe it.

Jim C Wilson is well-known as an entertaining, charming and thought-provoking performer. His popular Poetry in Practice workshops at Edinburgh University have won him a well-deserved following, as have his widely published, thoughtful poems. His new pamphlet is Will I Ever Get to Minsk?

Jim Carruth is equally celebrated, both for poems in all sorts of outlets and, of course, for his involvement (as a founder and current chair) of St Mungo’s Mirrorball in Glasgow, and his work for StAnza, Scotland’s International Poetry Festival. Jim’s new pamphlet is Rider at the Crossing.

Both will, needless to say, read some poems. And there will also be plenty of time to chat to them, get pamphlets signed, taste some wine (or something less alcoholic) in the environs of the best poetry anchorage in the world.

No obligation to buy of course, but everything will be on special offer, and these elegant little publications will make very nice seasonal gifts for wine tasters, poem tasters and anchorites.
