Manchester's experimental poetry reading series starts the new year with readings from Linda Black, Nikolai Duffy and Marcus Slease.
Linda Black studied at Leeds Art College, Goldsmiths and the Slade School. She ran Apollo Etching Studio in London and has exhibited widely. Her poems have appeared in various magazines and anthologies, most recently I am Twenty People! (Enitharmon, 2007). She was the recipient of the 2004/5 Poetry School Scholarship and a pamphlet of her work, The beating of wings (Hearing Eye, 2006) was the PBS Pamphlet Choice for Spring 2007. She is the winner of the 2006 New Writing Ventures Award for poetry, and an editor of Long Poem Magazine. She has two collections with Shearsman, Inventory and Root.
Nikolai Duffy is a lecturer in the English Department at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he teaches American literature and poetry. His poetry has appeared in Blackbox Manifold, Eratio, Ink Sweat & Tears, Shearsman and Stride. His chapbook, the little shed of various lamps, was published by The Red Ceilings Press in September 2011.
Marcus Slease was born in Portadown, N. Ireland. He has lived all over the world as a teacher of English as a foreign language. Recent fiction and poetry have appeared (or are forthcoming) in magazines such as: Metazen, Housefire, So and So Magazine, Spork, InDigest, Gesture, NAP, Forklift Ohio, and Little White Lies. His most recent book, Mu (dream) So (Window), is available from Poor Claudia. He lives in London and blogs at The House Of Zabka.
