A Poem and a Pint Midwinter Event

This event on 9th February 2013 has past.

Contact: antonychristie@aol.com

An evening of poetry and music. The event features two outstanding performers: poet Tony Curtis, a member of Aosdána, the Irish association of creative artists, winner of the Poetry Ireland/Friends Provident National Poetry Competition, the Book Stop Poetry Prize and 2003 recipient of the Varuna House Exchange Fellowship to Australia, and Ulverston guitarist Matt Cowe. Tony Curtis is self-deprecating and very funny, he tells a story and a joke like the best sort of stand-up and he shimmers with Irish charm. His most recent collection, Folk (2010) is rich, overspilling with poems you want to return to and when you do, they reward re-reading, revealing different and surprising layers of themselves. His imagination turns the familiar world upside down. Matt Cowe will be playing tunes by guitar legend Chet Atkins on his new Gretsch guitar 'Ruby'. He has loved the country-swing sounds of Chet for many years and is now proud to present a tribute to Mr. Guitar himself with a selection of favourites from the early 1950's.

Price: £6.00. (£6 (concessions£4))

Time: 7.30 p.m.
