LUKE WRIGHT-Your New Favourite Poet

Hit Edinburgh show on tour

‘The most relevant poet of his generation’ Exeunt ‘The funniest of the comedy poets’ Time Out

Poet and broadcaster Luke Wright takes to the road this year with his exuberant new show for a tour that takes his explosive political satire and acerbic wit around the country including a 3 week run at London’s Leicester Square Theatre.

Luke Wright-Your New Favourite Poet is his sixth solo show. Described by The List at its 2012 Edinburgh run as ‘funnier than the bulk of the comedy section and more thoughtful than most of the theatre’ the show further extends the reach of his bleakly brilliant Cynical Ballads and ups the energy levels.

‘Timely, patriotic, touching and consistently funny’  Scotsman

Expect thigh-slapping acerbic wordplay and bawdy bar room ballads as Wright introduces you to a cast of greedy politicians and boozy ne’er-do-wells. Meet Jeremy, the public schoolboy who draws penises on everything; kung-fu fighting French copper Jean-Claude Gendarme and witness the world’s first b-movie set in Brentwood. This is poetry at its most fun, contemporary, and satirical.

‘truly the real deal … an exquisite hour  The List

Luke Wright is a poet, performer and festival curator. Perhaps best known to a wider audience for his witty and empathetic contributions as poet-in-residence to BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live, he has become widely acknowledged as a trailblazer for performance and written poetry. He is a regular contributor to radio, TV and newspapers, has written poetry for films and television, including the groundbreaking Channel 4 documentary The Seven Ages of Love. His new book Mondeo Man has just been published and he is writing a new show Essex Lion that will debut at this year’s Edinburgh Festival. He has taken his shows to Australia and in March he will be making his second trip to China with shows in Bejing and Shanghai.
He might just be the hardest working man in poetry.

‘Luke is a craftsman with a big heart. (Mondeo Man is) an excellent book.’ Ian McMillan

Luke is also host and programmer of the Latitude Festival’s Poetry Arena, the largest single poetry event in Europe. He has programmed many other poetry festivals and events including the Edinburgh Fringe’s first ever, and to date only, dedicated poetry venue.
