Later at the library: Open Mic Poetry Night

Celebrate World Book Night on Tuesday 23rd April 2013 with Later at the Library - An Open Mic night featuring Poland's Premier Performance Poet Bohdan Piasecki with support by Archimedes Screw Poetry Showcase Champion Stewart Taylor, Alphapoetica's Cultural Olympiad Heroine Angela Chicken and Open Mic where local poetry can shine (and win prizes!)

Veteran of three major international tours, travelling from Tokyo to Paris, from Beijing to Birmingham, Bohdan Piasecki represented Poland at the Poetry Slam World Cup, performed at major festivals including Glastonbury and Latitude, written for BBC Radio 3's 'The Verb' show as well as working as compere for the Royal Shakespeare Company and as visiting lecturer in Creative Writing for Birmingham University.

Local poet Stewart Taylor won the audience vote at the Archimedes Screw Showcase in Southampton in January 2013 to earn a headline set with Apples and Snakes '451' show at the Nuffield Theatre whilst Angela Chicken represented Southampton as part of the Cultural Olympiad 'A-Z in the City' celebrations, has work featured at the John Hansard Gallery and is currently working on a poetry film project.

Open Mic sign-up is from 7.30pm with a limited number of four-minute slots available on a 'first-come first served' basis. Audience members will be asked to vote for their favourite open mic performer, who will be awarded a £20 Waterstones voucher and tickets to see the current World Poetry Slam Champion, Harry Baker, perform a headline set in Southampton on May 10th 2013.
