Cris Cheek: Writing, Sound, Movement and Performance
A poet, writer, book artist, publisher, new media practitioner and interdisciplinary performer, Cris Cheek's writing has been commissioned and shown widely, often in multiple versions using diverse media for production and circulation. His work is increasingly site-responsive and frequently created in full collaboration with other artists. cris cheek is a British poet, artist, interdisciplinary performer and professor at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Born in London in 1955, he lived and worked in that capital until the early 1990s. Between 1999-2004 he completed a PhD at Edge Hill University.
Supported by the legendary turntable-wrangler Philip Jeck and the astonishing dancer Mary Prestidge, former collaborators with Cris; by poets Scott Thurston (with the voice artist and singer Steve Boyland) and Patricia Farrell, who have worked in the same contexts as Cheek; and featuring a collaboration between dancer Jo Blowers and poet Robert Sheppard, their first for 15 years (one of their first had been for Cris' Sound & Language evenings).
