NZSN: A Poetry Double Bill with Lynn Davidson and Briar Wood
The New Zealand Studies Network (UK & Ireland) present a Poetry Double Bill of Lynn Davidson and Briar Wood.
Briar Wood grew up in Mangere in Auckland, New Zealand. She came to the UK in 1983 and frequently returns there. From 1999-2012 she taught creative writing and new literatures in English at London Metropolitan University. Her poetry is available online at the UK Poetry Archive. In 2001 she wrote poems for the Glorified Scales installation by Maureen Lander at Te Papa Whakahiku/The Auckland War Memorial Museum, which referred to their Nga Puhi whakapapa. Her recent collection Welcome Beltane (2012) focuses on how connections with location are experienced, especially in Cornwall. Forthcoming is Leeway, poems with photographs by artist Alexis Hunter of contemporary London life.
Lynn Davidson has published a novel, Ghost Net, a novella, The Desert Road, and four collections of poetry. Her latest book is a collection of poetry and essays, Common Land (2012). She has taught creative writing at Melbourne University and the Institute of Modern Letters, Victoria University. In September she is taking up a Hawthornden residency to work on a collection of poems with a theme of journeys to and from islands, especially between mainland North Island and Kapiti Island, and mainland Scotland and the Isle of Islay.'
