***25/8's Sunday Xpress has been moved to 1/9, apologies for any inconvenience***
The Sunday Xpress open mic event, held at the Adam and Eve pub in the Digbeth area of Birmingham, is hosted by “Big Bren”, Brendan Higgins, for many the unofficial poet laureate of Birmingham. Since its origins in the Market Tavern in Digbeth in 2006, the event has showcased and supported a diverse range of artists, including poets, fiction and non-fiction writers, acoustic and live bands, drama, one-person shows, stand-up comedy and, on some occasions, interpretive dance.
The Sunday Xpress open mic event organisers will be working with the Birmingham Poetry Festival for a partner event on 29 September, having a showcase of unsigned bands on 27 October and will be hosting Birmingham’s unsung heroes Miss Halliwell on 24 November, who played the event in June this year. November’s event will be recorded live for a hopeful release in 2014.
The Sunday Xpress is considered to be an ideal platform for the beginner, the seasoned professional and those who want to try out new material or something different. For this event, the open mic afternoon will start at 4/4.30pm and The Courtesy Group playing at 7.30/8pm. Slots are available by pre-booking on the Facebook event and group page, by contacting the organiser or by turning up early on the day and speaking to the event’s host.
