We are delighted to welcome Jean Sprackland, Christopher Reid and Helen Mort to The Print Room - for the third evening in our poetry series.
Jean Sprackland will be reading from her new collection, Sleeping Keys. In her first collection since the Costa-winning Tilt, Sleeping Keys is a book of transitions, full of exact, clear-eyed observation of a world of failure and flux, Sleeping Keys also illuminates a future world beyond... Jean Sprackland's first collection of poetry, Tattoos for Mother's Day, was shortlisted for the Forward Prize in 1999, Hard Water was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize and the Whitbread Poetry Award. Her third collection Tilt won the 2007 Costa Poetry Book Award. "She is among the best of her generation" - Herald
Christopher Reid will be reading his most recent collection, Six Bad Poets, a fast-paced romp through a world that the author has observed closely over many years, from which he reports with merciless accuracy, zest and humour... Christopher Reid's poetry has won many awards and prizes: A Scattering was named Costa Book of the Year in 2009. In 2010 his narrative poem A Song of Lunch was made into a film starring Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson. "Reid's phrasing is impeccable" - The Guardian
Helen Mort will be reading from her first collection Division Street. From a clash with striking miners and police to the delicate conflicts in human relationships, Helen Mort's stunning debut is is marked by distance and division. Helen Mort was born in Sheffield in 1985 and Division Street is the name of a street in that town. These distinctive and assured poems show how, at the site of conflict, a moment of reconciliation can be born. Helen Mort is five times winner of the Foyle Young Poets Award, received an Eric Gregory Award in 2007 and won The Manchester Young Writer Prize in 2008. "Helen Mort is among brightest stars in the sparkling new constellation of young British poets" - Carol Ann Duffy
