This workshop will explore what it is to write and perform for younger people and also what it is to create work for family audiences. Whether you are a quiet performer, a loud comedian or looking exclusively at work for the page - Dominic will discuss what he has found to be key differences between his experiences of making various works for adult and younger minds.
Through this workshop we will look at creating and sharing a concise draft of writing specifically for the age group of your choice (preschool, junior, secondary, families) focusing on developing memorable, engaging writing appropriate for the chosen recipients.
Dominic Berry is an award-winning poet (including New York's infamous Nuyorican Poetry Cafe Slam and Manchester Literature festival's Superheroes of Slam). Last year he wrote a new poem, a poem written for children, to use at an audition for the BBC show 'Rhyme Rocket'. Dominic got to act and perform that poem on national TV, leading to Arts Council support of a solo, nation wide family theatre tour ('The Dragon Who Hates Poetry') including a full fun at 2013 Edinburgh Fringe. A second show has been commissioned by Ramsbottom Festival ('Spark, the Goblin Wizard') and will tour though 2014. Dominic now regularly performs in junior and secondary schools as well as family festivals, libraries and literature festivals.
