A prestigious collection of writers and poets read from their own work in this ever popular programme of events. This Literature Live event will feature Clare Pollard and Robert Graham.

Clare Pollard was born in Bolton in 1978 and currently lives in London. Her first collection of poetry, The Heavy-Petting Zoo (Bloodaxe, 1998) was written whilst she was still at school, and received an Eric Gregory Award. It was followed by Bedtime (Bloodaxe, 2002) and Look, Clare! Look! (Bloodaxe, 2005), which was made a set text on the WJEC A-level syllabus. Her fourth collection Changeling, was published in June 2011, and is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. In 2003 she won a Society of Authors travel award and an Arts Council writer’s award. The Independent named her one of their Top Writers Under 30.

Clare’s first play The Weather (Faber, 2004) premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, and has since been performed at the Munchner Kammerspiele in Munich. In 2012 she co-wrote the radio play Surface to Air with WN Herbert for BBC Radio 4. She has toured widely with the British Council, including a residency in Beijing, and been involved in numerous translation projects, including co-translating Poems by Caasha Lul Mohamud Yusuf (Poetry Translation Centre 2012). Clare’s latest translation is Ovid’s Heroines (Bloodaxe, 2013)

Robert Graham is the co-author, (with Keith Baty), of Elvis - The Novel (The Do-Not Press, 1997). His short stories have appeared in many magazines and anthologies and on BBC Radio 4. He is the author of How To Write Fiction (And Think About It) (Palgrave, 2006) and co-author of Everything You Need To Know About Creative Writing (Bloomsbury, 2007) and The Road To Somewhere: A Creative Writing Companion (Palgrave, 2014). Other publications include his novel, Holy Joe, (Troubador, 2006); a short story collection, The Only Living Boy (Salt, 2009); a novella, A Man Walks Into A Kitchen (Salt, 2011); and a box of short stories, When You Were A Mod, I Was A Rocker (Like This Press, 2013). He teaches Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Cheshire Faculty.
