"GS Smith's CAESURA series is rapidly becoming one of the most vital avant garde readings in Great Britain" - SJ Fowler
This month we have a spelunker of sound and language visiting from London, a local experimental poet and artist, a firebrand punk poet and producer and a nomadic poet/dramaturge.
That is: Holly Pester, Greg Thomas, Jem Rolls and Stephen Redman.
£3 entry - 7pm kick off
HOLLY PESTER
Holly Pester is a sound poet and multidisciplinary writer whose AHRC-funded doctoral research examined the poetics of noise, focusing on the effects of broadcast and transmission media on the voice. She experiments with her own voice in various forms of texts including an investigation into the history and practice of sea shanties, radio transmissions and humour. Her interest in the noise and the sound of speech has led to her performing and installing work internationally at festivals and high profile events, including British Council funded visit to Mexico City, an artist’s residency at the dOCUMENTA 13 art fair in Kassel, Germany, art installations at the Text Festival in Bury, Manchester and performances at the Serpentine Gallery, London. Holly Pester’s poetry collection, Hoofs, was released with if p then q press in 2011 and her next collection, Folkslop is due out with Veer Books early 2014.

GREG THOMAS
Greg Thomas lives in Edinburgh and has spent most of the last few years writing a PhD, and a small amount of time printing and gouging things, mainly for his own amusement. He likes words to be fixed in place: a largely reactionary sentiment.

JEM ROLLS
Performed 2600+ poetry shows, produced 1000+. 35 five-star reviews. 150+ four star. Makes a living entirely from the doorsales of performance poetry shows. Writes a new show every year. Which must succeed. Or he won’t eat. And which demands he acquires or invents new writing and performance techniques every year. So he has now, perforce, acquired a very wide array or palette or arsenal of pieces and techniques. Publishes nothing. Sells nothing. No books no DVDs no CDs. Receives no fees. Only doorsales. Allergic to cliques, anaphylactic to establishments. Can’t be bothered to smile, round-peg, arse-lick or face-fit. Does not teach, workshop, etc. Successfully avoids all of them and yet is possibly the only professional performance poet in Scotland. Poetry is an outsider’s medium. And performance poetry is the outside of poetry. And Jem has somehow managed to become the outsider of the outsiders of the outsiders. “Its like pop-up TV!” six year old Jasmine, British Columbia.

STEPHEN REDMAN
Stephen's latest project is called Black Ribbon, it is a partnership between Project Ginsberg and New Media Scotland. Its aim is to help people who self-harm find ways to self-harm less. Black Ribbon is a piece of interactive fiction designed to place the reader in charge of the outcome of a character who self harms. Stephen hopes this will reduce self-harming and help others understand the issue. He also writes poetry.
