Stephen Watts is a poet, translator and editor. His previous works include the The Lava's Curl (1990), Gramsci & Caruso (2003), The Blue Bag (2004), Mountain Language (2008) and Journey Across Breath (2011). He has lived in the Outer Hebrides & elsewhere in the north of Scotland, but for more than 40 years in Shadwell in London's East End. His mother's family is from the high Italian & Swiss Italian Alps. He has translated the poetry of Ziba Karbassi, Adnan al-Sayegh, Meta Ku'ar, Tonino Guerra, A. N. Stencl, Amarjit Chandan, Golan Haji and Claudiu Komartin, while his own poetry has been translated inter alia into Italian (by Cristina Viti), Czech, Persian, Arabic, Romanian, Slovenian & Bengali.
His new collection of poems Ancient Light is published this month. The book will be available for purchase and signing on the day.
This last event of the season will also welcome an acoustic performance by the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and alt.folk songwriter Bird Radio. His debut album The Boy and the Audience was released to great acclaim in November 2013 and he has recently completed a residency at Aldeburgh Music,where he will soon record a new suite of songs responding to the poetry of Walter de la Mare. His album will be also available for purchase and signing.
