THE HEAVY BURDEN OF THE GROWING SOUL:
the spiritual in the poetry of T S Eliot
with guest tutor, poet and scholar Peter Brennan
Sunday April 6th, nr Totnes, Devon
10am to 4pm; £45/£40 concs
Please bring a veggie dish for the lunch table
This is a rare opportunity to explore some of the most significant poetry of the 20th century with the popular and inspiring Peter Brennan, tutor at CityLit, London.
During this course we shall experience and reflect on the remarkable unfolding of Eliot’s poetry – from the high modernist explorations of ‘Prufrock’ and ‘The Waste Land’, through the pathos and irony of ‘Animula’ to his crowning sequence, ‘Four Quartets’.
We will focus especially on how Eliot’s artistry stimulates profound and moving insights into our own experience of life and into our spiritual quandaries and aspirations. As a pioneering student of the Upanishads and the Gita who developed a profound Christian faith, Eliot’s poetry has proved particularly inspiring to those who seek the essential truths underlying all spiritual traditions, both east and west.
You don’t need to be a writer, just interested in literature.
Places are limited and the course is beginning to fill, so early booking, with the full fee, is requested. Booking details and directions from me, Roselle.
Price: £45.00 / £40.00
