A spoken word night inspired by London’s street art.
If you see a piece of graffiti that particularly captivates you, take a picture of it on your phone/camera. Write a piece about it, in whatever way it inspires you, bring it to the night, and we’ll project the image whilst you share your words with the audience (5 mins or less slots).
Message over here, leave a comment below or sign up on the night for a slot, but I thought I should get the ball rolling now so that people have time to give this concept some thought - and spot the graffiti that intrigues, entices, excites them as a muse.
This is an experiment in urban expression and inspiration that hopefully will be creatively stimulating and interesting for both performers and audience. The premise can be taken as loosely or as abstractly as the writer wants; whether it's 'fuck' scrawled on a subway wall, or the most intricately detailed mural painted on the side of a building that's stopped you still in the street, we're looking at what that expression of another mind communicates to your own, and how that fits into the greater social communication of the city we live in.
Free entry, night signers-up, arrive for a slot between 7.30-8pm, and we'll aim to kick off at 8. Remember to bring your photos with you, or email/message them before!
Email address as above.
Hosted by Pat Cash of Spoken Word London, as part of the Survival Guides programme of artistic events, curated by Jacob Joyce and produced by Alice Moon.
