Adjusting the Contrast came into being one moonlit night on the wilds of Dartmoor, when poets Susan Taylor and Simon Williams were returning from one of Jackie Juno's 'Hoot' nights in the Globe Inn at Chagford. Peter Farrie was on the line-up that night, too... and it was as glaringly obvious as the full moonlight that we all had some startlingly contrasting things to say about the many phases of love - not just the sweet and bright full moon stuff, but the dark and mysterious new moon phase as well. In 2011 we welcomed Katie Whitehouse, with her sweet and sultry voice, into our little band of troubadours -
The evening gets to grips with both the complexity and simplicity of love and features a wide spectrum of songs with dynamic keyboard accompaniments, coupled with a mix of enchanting and zany spoken word.
The audience are taken on a journey of love, in all its guises and glory, from the fumblings of a mismatched first date, to the thrill of a lover’s well tuned touch, through the sweetness of honeymoon, to a relationship callously ended by text.
