The University of Salford are delighted to invite you to a very special event that will mark the conclusion of this year’s thought provoking and diverse Salford Lectures Series.‘Walking into New Vocabularies’ will take place at 6.00pm on Thursday 22 May 2014 in Chapman Building, University of Salford. During this memorable evening we will be welcoming two accomplished and renowned individuals from the worlds of art and literature, Sokari Douglas Camp and Jackie Kay.
Sokari Douglas Camp the critically acclaimed sculptor is well known for her services to art for which she was awarded a CBE for in 2005. She has collections exhibited, permanently across the globe in London, Japan and Washington DC and her more recent work ‘All the World is Now Richer’ is currently being displayed at St Pauls Cathedral, London.
Jackie Kay, writer and poet is best known for her outstanding contribution to literature for which she was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2002 and awarded an MBE for in 2006. Her poems, books and short stories have won an array of awards and prizes. To name a few, her novel Trumpet won the Guardian Fiction Award and was shortlisted for the IMPAC award and Red Dust Road (Picador) won the Scottish Book of the Year Award and the London Book Award.
Sokari and Jackie will bring their creations to walk and talk together with us in an evening of conversation led by Brenda Cooper, Honorary Research Associate, University of Manchester.
