Out-Spoken at The Forge: Poetry in Collision
- Rising performance showcase gets prestigious new home
“It was one of the most enjoyable and uplifting experiences I have had in London, and the best poetry and spoken-word evening I have attended in the last 10 years! Thank you to all involved” - Paul Gladstone Reid MBE
“An evening of brilliantly varied acts that were affecting and captivating in equal measure” – Alex Saunders, TheSpeakersCorner.co.uk
"To perform at a night where the audience’s enthusiasm for the form is matched by the hosts is a complete pleasure" – Polarbear (leading UK poet and author)
Out-Spoken is emerging as one of London’s most successful live performance events, rapidly outgrowing its humble beginnings in a King’s Cross pub basement a year ago, and relocating to a stylish new home - the award-winning music venue ‘The Forge’, in Camden.
Out-Spoken is the remedy for anyone who’s ever been to a poetry or music event and found it stale, inaccessible, or simply dull. Alongside other popular spoken-word nights and poetry collectives, Out-Spoken sits amidst significant development within London's poetry scene, part of a burgeoning community that’s putting spoken-word on the frontline of London's performing arts movement.
Out-Spoken doesn’t feature an ‘open mic’ section, preferring to give more time for their featured artists to engage with the audience. Their monthly events regularly fill to capacity and are becoming a sought-after platform for veteran voices and up-and-coming artists alike.
Artistic diversity ensures an exciting collision of different art forms. Combining prestige and professionalism with the DIY collectivist spirit that has always characterised the best independent arts movements, Out-Spoken continues to blend barriers and side-step orthodoxies. Audiences can expect everything from traditional page poets to choreographed, theatrical performance poetry and vocal performers, to folk singers, alternative electronica and leftfield hip-hop.
Their list of previous performers reads like a ‘who’s who’ of Britain’s poetry and independent music scenes, featuring spoken-word artists like Polarbear, Paul Gladstone Reid MBE, Floetry’s The Floacist, and Sabrina Mahfouz, and musical acts such as To Kill A King, Josh Osho, Jacob Banks, Akala, and Mystro.
The night is the brainchild of prominent UK poet Anthony Anaxagorou, who says his intention in founding the event was “to create a night that offered an eclectic distillation of what both the poetry and music scenes had to offer.”
At its new home, Out-Spoken also offers the perfect backdrop to relax and socialise in The Forge’s bar and award-winning restaurant. The night offers a 10% discount on food to ticket holders.
