If creative writing is like driving at night with headlights, then excitement for the passenger, or reader, comes from the unexpected. The twists, dips, and turns in the road. Using contemporary and traditional poems as signposts, participants will travel on a journey that explores how to take a poem in unexpected directions, getting to grips with different types of poetic turn that will surprise the senses, stir emotions, and startle the imagination.
