Following the resounding success of Mark Grist’s Rogue Teacher in November, Pen:Chant continues to bring the cream of the international fringe circuit’s comedy, spoken word and performance artists to Salford to present their hour-long solo shows, supported by superb local guest acts and a small number of highly coveted, open mic spots.
This month we have award-winning York-born writer and performer Rob Auton with his Edinburgh Fringe cult hit, The Face Show, with support from former director of National Poetry Day and UK Canal Laureate, Jo Bell plus a small number of highly coveted open mic spots. Hosted, as ever, by the vaguely vagrant-looking Ben Mellor.
More about The Face Show:
The Face Show is a comedy/theatre/talking show about faces by award-winning York-born writer and performer Rob Auton. Having explored the colour yellow in his first solo production ‘The Yellow Show’ and the sky in his second piece ‘The Sky Show’ Rob now turns his attention to faces in his most recent outing - ‘The Face Show’.
‘The Face Show’ is suitable for anybody who has a face or has seen somebody with a face. With The Face Show Rob aims to explore the faces of his life and his audience and answer questions such as: “What makes a face?” “Why make a face?” and “Who makes a face?”
The Face Show was a cult hit at this year’s Fringe with audiences struggling to get in to see Rob’s show about faces. It was included in the Guardian’s top ten free shows to see at the Edinburgh Fringe 2014, the paper then went on to call him a ‘genuine original’. With two, three, four and five star reviews audiences went to the show and made their own minds up. Rob has been touring the show and now brings it to Manchester for one night only.
"Charming, eccentric and uplifting, Auton is a talent to watch." - The Independent
"We need him."- The Scotsman
"Few artists have ever managed to consistently provide me with such joy and pleasure as Rob Auton. I always leave in awe of how good he is." - Scroobius Pip
"Exactly the kind of show you should see at the fringe, the memory will stay with you for a long long time." - The Scotsman
"Gaunt and deliberate" - Newsweek
