Part of a city-wide effort to teach about the history of police violence in Chicago at the hands of former Chicago Police Department commander Jon Burge and provide information about the Reparations Ordinance, this event will feature a screening of the documentary The End of the Night Stick: Confronting Police Brutality in Chicago.
A panel of poets and organizers including Darrell Cannon, Kristiana Rae Colón, Britteney Black Rose Kapri, and Malcolm London will respond to the film and discuss how they address violence in their writing and communities. Teach Burge: Poets Respond to Police Torture will take place one day before City Hall hears the Reparations Ordinance, which provides support for torture survivors.
Please note: This film contains graphic descriptions of torture. Viewer discretion is advised.
