World War I, which began just over a hundred years ago, came to be known as the Great War for its unprecedented scope and the vast carnage caused by its new technologies of killing. The conflict is also distinguished for the great poets it produced and those whose lives it snuffed out. In this special performance led by Linda Gates, Northwestern University theater students present the work of familiar writers, such as Wilfred Owen, Rupert Brooke, and Isaac Rosenberg, along with those less well-known, including Eleanor Farjeon, Muriel Stuart, and the nearly forgotten African American poets who both served and died in the war.
